Key Responsibilities
- Drive a 3-ton truck safely to pick up donated clothing and household items from homes and donation bins along set routes.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections to make sure the truck is safe and ready to drive each day.
- Complete daily paperwork, including trip logs, Hours-of-Service records, and donation pickup reports.
- Check in with dispatch at the start, middle, and end of each route to stay updated and report any issues.
- Unload donated items at storage facilities or partner locations as directed.
- Give donation message cards to each donor to thank them for their gifts and share the mission of the National Diabetes Trust.
- Follow all traffic laws and company safety rules to keep yourself, the public, and the truck safe.
- Report any route problems or discrepancies to the dispatch team quickly.
- Keep all equipment clean and return it to the office at the end of each day.
- Help with any other tasks needed to keep daily operations running smoothly.
Requirements
- Must Have Skills
- Have a Class 5 or G driver’s license for passenger cars or light trucks.
- Have at least 2-5 years of actual driving experience with the above license.
- Be able to drive a 3-ton (16 foot) straight truck safely and follow all traffic laws.
- Be able to read maps and plan routes to make pickups efficient.
- Be able to lift and handle loads between 10 and 50 pounds.
- Have good customer service skills and be able to talk calmly and kindly with people.
- Be able to follow both written and spoken instructions clearly.
- Have a clean driver’s abstract less than 21 days old, with no accidents or violations in the past three years.
- Be able to work up to 29 hours per week on a consistent schedule.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Experience driving commercial vehicles or trucks is preferred but not required if proper training is completed.
- Ability to project a positive and professional image while representing the National Diabetes Trust.
- Strong organizational skills to keep paperwork and routes well managed.
