Job Title

Packaging Machine Operator (I)

Responsibilities

  • Carefully set up, precisely adjust, and proficiently operate different production packaging machines according to the daily schedule.
  • Skillfully troubleshoot any equipment issues that come up, actively lending a hand with corrective actions to keep things running smoothly.
  • Confirm that the correct packaging materials are always on hand and being used as per the production plan.
  • Diligently measure and work towards reducing both scrap materials and any rework needed.
  • Perform essential Quality Control checks, which includes verifying carton and case codes accurately.
  • Record and document equipment outages in detail, taking note of throughput and line efficiency.
  • Upholding strict hygienic standards, clean and sanitize major packing equipment as needed.
  • Distribute completed items throughout the building using powered equipment or manual labor as necessary.
  • Follow the company’s safety policies and all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) to the letter.
  • Assume complete responsibility for food safety and notify the supervisor right once of any non-compliance issues.
  • Wear all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times during your shift.
  • Ensure that the workspace is always tidy, well-organized, and secure for all users.
  • Make sure that all SunOpta Quality and food safety standards—such as
  • HACCP, GMPs, Organic, GFCO, SQF, Kosher certifications, and particular client needs—are fully followed.
  • Perform any additional tasks that the management team assigns you as needed.

Requirements

Education

A Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent qualification is required.

Experience

At least two (2) years of relevant experience within a food manufacturing environment is definitely preferred for this role.

Skills

  • A strong capacity for critical thinking, particularly for planning and resolving unexpected problems.
  • Experience using Oracle systems would be an asset.
  • Possesses good verbal communication, clear written communication, and the ability to handle multiple tasks effectively.
  • Demonstrates a positive, proactive, “can-do” attitude.
  • Exhibits a very strong attention to detail in all tasks.
  • Capable of working both independently with minimal oversight and productively within a team setting.

Knowledge

  • Solid understanding of various packaging (manufacturing) equipment.
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) is essential.
  • A good grasp of food safety principles and HACCP.
  • Knowledge of how production schedules work and methods for tracking efficiency.
  • Awareness of best practices for material handling and ways to minimize waste.
  • Understanding of standard quality control procedures within a manufacturing setting.
