Key Responsibilities

  • As a Forklift & Excavator Operator, you’ll play an essential role in recycling and resource recovery. You will work closely with the Yard Manager and team to ensure smooth, safe, and efficient operations.

Your Day-to-Day Duties Will Include:

  • Operate forklifts and/or excavators to move, grade, and sort scrap metal (licenses permitting)
  • Load and unload trucks, skip bins, and trailers safely and efficiently
  • Grade and identify various types of metals for recycling or resale
  • Interact with customers and suppliers, providing excellent service and support
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment
  • Follow all OH&S guidelines and procedures to ensure workplace safety

Qualifications & Skills

Sims Metal is looking for individuals who are practical, hands-on, and eager to learn. You don’t need prior industry experience—just the right attitude and a willingness to work safely and effectively.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Attention to detail—you’ll be sorting various types of metals
  • A positive, can-do attitude and openness to training
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Basic computer literacy and numeracy
  • Ability to work outdoors in a physical role

Preferred Qualifications (Not Required):

  • Forklift certification or experience
  • WTR licence (Wheels, Tracks, and Rollers)
  • Class 2 licence
  • Hiab experience (truck-mounted cranes)
