What Will You Do?

Operate Machinery Safely and Efficiently

  • Operate excavators for bulk and detail earthworks
  • Load and transport materials using HR/HC trucks
  • Perform trenching and backfilling as required for stormwater works
  • Assist with road base and pavement preparation

Daily Equipment and Site Checks

  • Conduct pre-start inspections and routine safety checks
  • Identify and report any equipment issues to supervisors
  • Maintain clean and well-functioning machinery

Support Site Operations

  • Work closely with site supervisors and team members
  • Follow all site safety protocols and signage
  • Communicate clearly with spotters, traffic control, and other operators
  • Occasionally assist with general labouring tasks as needed

Documentation and Compliance

  • Complete job logs, timesheets, and basic safety documentation
  • Ensure compliance with NT construction standards and regulations

Requirements: Must-Have Skills

  • Valid HR or HC Truck Licence (NT or nationally recognised)
  • Excavator competency ticket or VOC
  • Minimum 2–3 years of relevant heavy machinery operating experience
  • Familiarity with bulk earthworks, trenching, stormwater, or pavement construction
  • Solid understanding of pre-start checks, safety procedures, and equipment maintenance
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional work ethic
  • High level of attention to detail and situational awareness on busy sites
  • Ability to interpret basic site plans and instructions
  • Able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test
  • White Card (Construction Induction Certificate)

Preferred Skills

  • 3D GPS machine control experience
  • Familiarity with Topcon or Trimble systems
  • Prior experience with civil projects in remote or regional NT
  • Ability to operate multiple plant types
  • Basic mechanical knowledge for minor on-site repairs
