Driver/Warehouse Worker Canada

The Salvation Army is currently hiring a Driver/Warehouse Worker in Oshawa, Ontario for a permanent part-time position (25 hours/week). Location and Work Type

  • Location: Oshawa, Ontario
  • Position Type: Permanent, part-time
  • Hours: 25 hours per week, flexible scheduling (may include evenings/weekends)
  • Work Setting: Combination of warehouse and on-the-road deliveries

What Will You Do?

Driving Responsibilities

  • Drive The Salvation Army’s transit vehicle to perform pick-ups and deliveries
  • Maintain the vehicle’s safety, cleanliness, and operating records
  • Load/unload donations, food, waste, and recycling between sites
  • Pick up food and donations from events, grocery stores, homes, and food drives
  • Deliver goods to thrift stores, food banks, and other Salvation Army sites
  • Support seasonal efforts such as Christmas hamper and toy deliveries
  • Ensure all work meets health, safety, and legislative standards

Warehouse Responsibilities

  • Receive, document, and sort donated products
  • Place items in designated warehouse zones
  • Prepare food orders for distribution to food banks
  • Help with inventory management and warehouse upkeep
  • Work alongside and support volunteers during warehouse operations
  • Keep all workspaces clean and free of hazards

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Completed secondary school diploma
  • At least 1 year of experience as a professional driver
  • Minimum 3 months of experience in warehouse or stock-related tasks
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License (clean and acceptable driving record)

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs regularly
  • Frequent bending, twisting, crouching, reaching, and kneeling required
  • Comfortable working in varied conditions (warehouse, vehicle, outdoors)
  • Must wear safety boots, gloves, and other PPE as required
  • May be exposed to odours, dust, and dirty environments

Preferred Skills

  • Previous experience with non-profits or community service organizations
  • Familiarity with Health & Safety regulations and warehouse procedures
  • Comfortable interacting with diverse community members and donors
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in fast-paced or physically demanding situations

Compensation and Benefits

  • Hourly wage: $17.61 – $22.01
  • Top end of salary range: $26.41/hour
  • Placement depends on experience, qualifications, and internal equity
