Job Location & Work Type

  • Location: Auckland, New Zealand (Travel may be required to different sites)
  • Work Type: Full-time, permanent
  • Work Hours: Monday to Friday (with occasional weekend or after-hours work)
  • Type: On-site operations with field-based driving; some flexibility within shift planning

Key Responsibilities

As a Specialist Vehicle Operator, you’ll be the backbone of our environmental and infrastructure support services. Your role includes:

Fleet Operations

  • Operate a variety of specialist vehicles including:
    • Flushing trucks
    • Road sweepers
    • Sump trucks
    • Vacuum trucks
    • Hydro vac trucks
  • Ensure vehicles are operated safely, efficiently, and within compliance regulations.

Maintenance & Presentation

  • Perform daily vehicle checks and routine maintenance to keep all equipment in top condition.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, functionality, and presentation of tools and machinery.

Environmental Services

  • Assist with essential services such as liquid waste removal, stormwater management, and street cleaning.
  • Respond to urgent callouts or scheduled clean-ups ensuring public health and safety.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with crew members and supervisors to deliver jobs on time and to standard.
  • Communicate effectively to coordinate logistics, access, and safety requirements on-site.

Health & Safety

  • Uphold InterGroup’s zero-harm philosophy by following all safety procedures and proactively identifying risks.
  • Wear PPE correctly and participate in health and safety briefings and audits.

Must-Have Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must bring the following:

  • Valid Class 4 Driver’s Licence (clean and current)
  • At least 1 year of experience operating heavy vehicles or equipment in a similar industry
  • Strong understanding of vehicle safety procedures and basic mechanical knowledge
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment
  • Physically fit and able to handle manual work in an outdoor setting
  • Commitment to health and safety and compliance with operational standards

Nice-to-Have Skills

While not essential, the following will give you an edge:

  • Experience with vacuum or hydro excavation trucks
  • Additional licenses or endorsements (e.g., WTR, DG)
  • Familiarity with fleet management systems
  • Basic mechanical or maintenance background
  • Ability to work flexible hours or be on-call
