Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive clothing and linen support services by ensuring proper collection, sorting, processing, distribution, and inventory management of all linens and residents’ personal clothing.
- Sort linens and garments by fabric type, colour, and care requirements; load and unload commercial washers and dryers according to established procedures.
- Perform ironing and minor mending of residents’ clothing as required, extending the life of cherished personal items.
- Fold, sort, and load clean linen and clothing onto carts for efficient distribution and delivery to resident rooms and care units.
- Audit resident clothing and facility linens for proper labelling, wear and tear, or damage; discard worn items following proper documentation procedures.
- Maintain high sanitation standards throughout the laundry department, ensuring a clean, tidy work area and properly maintained equipment.
- Apply appropriate infection control protocols as required, following cleaning schedules and routines for the department.
- Observe machine operation and report any malfunctions, unusual noises, or performance issues to the team leader promptly.
- Assist in maintaining laundry facilities, equipment, and supplies, communicating replenishment needs as necessary.
- Complete cleaning duties as outlined for the laundry room area, including equipment, counters, sinks, and storage spaces.
- Maintain a clean, safe environment for residents by consistently utilizing infection prevention and control principles.
- Support and participate in quality initiatives by providing input and suggestions for improvement, reporting feedback to your immediate team leader.
- Perform other duties consistent with the role as assigned.
Qualifications
Must Haves:
- Secondary school graduation or equivalent.
- Knowledge related to infection control, cleaning practices, housekeeping operations, and laundry equipment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and also effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with team members and residents.
- Successful completion of the prescribed Vulnerable Sector Check (Ontario applicants).
Bonus Points For:
- Previous experience in institutional cleaning or laundry within Long Term Care or Retirement Residence settings is highly desirable.
Work Schedule:
- Permanent part-time position.
- Specific shift details to be confirmed; evening and weekend availability may be required.
- Rate of Pay: $22.61 – $25.22 per hour, as per collective agreement.
