Key Responsibilities
- Drive straight or special trucks to pick up and deliver junk and other items
- Load and unload goods safely at each job site or dump location
- Check the truck before and after trips to make sure everything works properly
- Keep track of how far you drive, how much fuel you use, and how many hours you work
- Talk with dispatch to get job details and share updates while on the road
- Do small repairs if the truck has a problem during the day
- Follow safety rules and drive carefully to protect people and cargo
- Help customers by answering simple questions and being friendly during pickups
- Keep the truck clean and do regular maintenance to avoid breakdowns
- Fill out basic forms and paperwork, like delivery logs and inspection reports
- Make sure all junk is handled properly and sent to the right disposal site
- Get special permits or papers when needed for certain loads or long trips
Requirements
- Must Have Skills
- You must have finished high school and have a secondary school graduation certificate
- You need a valid Class 3/3F/DF driver’s licence to drive the trucks used for this job
- You should be able to drive straight or special trucks safely and follow the rules
- You must be okay with lifting and moving heavy items during loading and unloading
- You should know how to check tires, brakes, lights, and other truck parts to make sure everything is working
- You need to understand how to fill out simple reports, like how many hours you worked or how much fuel you used
- You must be able to follow directions and talk with dispatch while you are on the road
- Preferred Qualifications
- It helps if you have experience driving trucks, but it’s not required
- Knowing how to fix small problems with the truck, like adjusting brakes or doing quick repairs, is a plus
