1st Shift Welder

Responsibilities

  • Fire up the MIG welder and run welds according to specs.
  • Cut metal with torch or saw when needed.
  • Tack pieces together before full weld.
  • Grind down finished edges for smooth fit.
  • Read welding symbols on drawings and follow them.
  • Help fabricate small assemblies if asked.
  • Keep tools clean and workspace free of scrap metal.
  • Wear gloves, goggles, respirators — safety first.
  • Flag issues, broken blades, or missing parts fast.
  • Hand off completed parts to shipping or assembly teams.

Requirements and Qualifications

Education

  • High school or equivalency works fine.
  • A welding ticket is great if you have it.

Experience

Minimum 2 years working in a production welding environment. The more shop time, the better.

Skills

  • MIG welding confidence
  • Can read and follow welding diagrams
  • Comfortable with grinders, bevelers, handheld tools
  • Good stamina — standing and bending all shift
  • Works well solo or with other crew members
  • Knows how to check for proper weld penetration and fit

Knowledge

  • Basic welding codes and quality checks
  • How metal warps under heat and how to prep joints
  • Safety habits around sparks and fumes
  • How to deburr and grind for clean finishes
  • Mechanically minded — can spot a fit issue visually
  • Understands shift fixture, jigs, or assembly sequence
